What Makes A Game Stay Popular?
The online gaming industry has become so fast-paced, with advancements happening left and right. When it comes to gaming consoles, new models come out every few years; with the games themselves, sequels are churned out faster than you can even finish the previous editions! Online games have even crossed over into the online casino industry, where casinos like XOSlot make hundreds of different slot games available to play and return to at any time.
What makes an online game become – and stay – so popular, anyway? Well, accessibility, for one. The easier and faster you can start playing a game that’s online, the more likely you are to keep coming back to it over time! Quality of the graphics is important, too; a game has got to be appealing in theme, design, and story, otherwise players are just going to get bored with it. Lastly, and definitely most importantly, it needs to be fun!! Not too difficult that players can’t finish it, but not easy enough that it’s no longer a challenge.
Here are some of the timeless games that have withstood the test of time and continue to remain hugely popular!
Timeless Games to Play Online
Fortnite
Epic Games’ Fortnite may be fairly new to the market, all things considered, as it was just released in 2017, but its popularity was unprecedented. What contributed to that was likely its availability across pretty much every platform you can think of: Windows, Mac, Switch, PlayStation, XBox, and both iOS and Android devices! Fortnite is a battle royale game where the aim is to be the last person (or team) standing in an arena starting with 100 players. Play solo or play in teams, but do whatever you can to protect yourselves and achieve your game objective.
PUBG: Battlegrounds
It’s safe to say that PUBG: Battlegrounds will continue its trajectory as one of the biggest online games for a while, especially considering that there are entire esports tournaments dedicated to the game! Like Fortnite, PUBG is a battle royale-style online game that begins with players parachuting out of an aircraft over their chosen spot on the game map. They are then left to their own devices to scavenge for weapons, supplies, and even vehicles – anything that will help defend themselves should they encounter other players. The goal is, of course, to be the last player standing.
Counter-Strike
If we’re talking about classics, Counter-Strike is an online game that just has to be part of the conversation. The game is over two decades old (having been first released in 2000) and it’s still going strong to this day! Of course, its timelessness is owed to many revamps and new releases over the years, particularly with the 2012 CS: Global Offensive (CS:GO) that has become huge in esports. The game is a multiplayer first-person shooter game, were teams fight to complete their objectives before the other team to win.
DotA (and Dota 2)
It’s a package deal, these two. Dota 2 is the 2013 sequel to Defense of the Ancients, itself a modification made for yet another game, Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos. Dota 2 came about as a remake of its community-made predecessor, but the objective remains the same. Two teams of five players have their own areas of the map (i.e. their “base”) that contains their “Ancient”; tey must defend theirs and at the same time, try to take down the opposing team’s Ancient.
The Sims
Last but not least is one timeless game that’s different from all the rest. In The Sims, you’re not playing against anyone else; all you’re doing is letting your imagination run wild. It’s classified as a ‘sandbox game’ in that there are no real defined goals or objectives, no way to win or lose – you’re simply…building your own world. It’s simple and yet to this day, it’s one of the best-selling video games in history!
Compete with or against others, or simply play on your own. With these timeless games that you can play online, you’ll never have a day of boredom!
